Touristy Things

The last few days have been touristy intense.

On thursday we headed out to the Healesville animals sanctuary. It's about an hour and a half north east of Melbourne. We drove into the Dandenong ranges while the kids slept and then we went to the zoo. It was a a zoo that only had Australian wildlife so we finally got to see some koalas, see and touch some kangaroos, many types of birds and many other animals (wallaby's, wombats, we couldn't find the Tasmanian devils, echnida, rock-wallabies,dingoes, platypus).

Friday we went downtown to see the AFL parade featuring all the players from Geelong cats and Hawthorn Hawks riding on the back of toyota trucks. There were soooooo many people. We then hung out at federation square because the Wicked cast was suppose to have a show... the was slightly disappointing... they sang 1 song that wasn't even from the musical... it was barely even worth the wait. We then walked to Queen st market, a massive market of meats, veggies, fruit, cheese, dips, and clothes and stuff also. Next we went to to 360 rialto observation deck, a tour 253m high where you get an awesome view of the entire city. You get a second entry at night so around 9:30 we headed back downtown to the city to see the city lights. We then walked around downtown to find a café/place that sells alcohol like we had seen all afternoon. Most coffee places sell alcohol also. but at night time we couldn't seem to find any.. because well i wanted pastries and leslie wanted to taste some Australian wine... at least we got to explore the downtown at night and see where the life is (at Swanston and Bourke), in the end just found some pastries and ate at Fed square before heading home.

Saturday we went to Mornington peninsula, an hour drive from Melbourne. We enjoyed a lovely day by the beach with the kids after spending some time at the cool wooden park. We then came back and watched the end of the AFL final game where the underdogs Hawthorn won.. the game is so weird and different than the other footballs or even rugby.
